Description

96    Jeb Dunnuck
“Even better than the 2009, the 2010 Château Barde-Haut offers the same sexy, extroverted style yet has slightly more density and depth. Blackcurrants, plums, graphite, and loads of chocolate notes jump from the glass, and it put its foot firmly on the ripeness pedal with its full-bodied richness and depth, sweet tannins, moderate acidity, and a rockstar of a finish.” (3/2020)

93    James Molesworth for Wine Spectator
“Still a bit compact, with blueberry coulis, fig and blackberry paste notes tightly wound, backed by tangy black licorice, singed apple wood and tar on the finish, which features a very sleek structure and a buried iron note. This has good vivacity and should unwind nicely in the cellar.” (2013)

92    Robert Parker for Wine Advocate
“Loads of blueberry, black cherry and dusty, loamy soil notes as well as hints of herbs, licorice and incense jump from the glass of this well-endowed, supple wine. Tannins are sweet and the acidity sufficient to give delineation to the wine. The 2010 Barde-Haut is a delicious, seductive style of St.-Emilion made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Proprietress Helene Garcin-Leveque purchased the estate in 2000 and has been pushing quality ever since.” (2/2013)

92    Neal Martin
“Matured in around 80% new oak for 21 months, the Barde-Haut has a dense, comparatively toasty nose with scents of macerated black cherries, dark plum, a touch of marmalade and Asian spices. The palate is full-bodied with ripe, succulent tannins and plenty of opulent black fruit that is counterbalanced by the silver thread of acidity. This is a modern take on the 2010, but it is very well balanced with a pure, velvet-textured finish.” (11/2012)
